KLAX Tower2 Opinion
« on: June 30, 2014, 04:28:02 PM »
Hello everyone. I am wondering what is your opinion about KLAX tower being split between the left and right speaker and being able to hear both north and south sides at the same time.

My opinion:
I feel like it gets a little confusing at times and it would better to scan both frequencies and have it in mono. Are there plans for the old KLAX tower (the one that had both north and south sides and helicopters) to return?

I like the idea of the two being split. It's nice to hear all of the traffic and not miss simultaneous transmissions. It's easy to turn a speaker down to isolate one or the other side.

Having them split and in stereo is much better than having one radio scanning two busy frequencies. With one radio scanning both frequencies you end up missing a lot of transmissions.

We may need to up the volume on one of the sides. Right side to be exact in this case.

A left / right balance slider on the LiveATC app may be a useful feature? Or if multiple instances of the app running at the same time (if that's even possible) in future versions could be a nice feature as well?

On the desktop I use Winamp which has a balance control so I can select which side I want to hear, plus I can have multiple Winamp sessions open at the same time.

Yes, Chananya, it does get confusing especially when listening to busy airports such as KLAX.  But, I do run several feeds in stereo for the exact reasons JetScan1 and bbrasmussen point out. So there are advantages and disadvantages to both.  :-D

What do you think of the idea of having 2 feeds? One being split and the other not split.
