KLAX Clearance feed?
« on: July 08, 2015, 06:51:52 PM »
Would be great to have a clearance delivery feed from KLAX being such a big and busy airport. I have a suggestion to make this happen, instead of the feed that combines north/south tower, change this feed to clearance? it is so difficult to track an aircraft and make sense of the busy north/south feed, and since there is a separate feed already for north tower and south tower, changing the combination to the clearance channel would be great if possible. Thank you!

Two things:

1. Dave and/or the feeder can confirm, but the combined tower feed almost assuredly isn't an actual "feed" (e.g. the output of a scanner) - it's likely a virtual feed created by combining (muxing) other actual feeds into a new one.

2. I would imagine only a fraction of the IFR clearances would be heard on this feed since I would imagine the majority of them are digitally transmitted to the cockpit via datalink in the form of PDCs.

Could be wrong on both points, though.

Still hear a lot of transmissions on clearance and the single ground feed makes it tough to hear specific flights on north ground if south is busy and visa versa. I'd actually rather have a separate feed for north ground and south ground but I'm just greedy! KORD, SFO, and JFK have such great coverage. a big airport like lax deserves the same.

OK guys you've asked me to comment on this just because of what the thread is talking about so here goes. if we make a change to  the stereo tower feed we should turn it back into mono and have it scan both frequencies because as of right now I have to turn my volume up to understand both sides at the same time which I don't mind doing. just giving my opinion and I agree with the other guy who said that having clearance on separate feed would not be productive.

LiveATC is the feeder for LAX.  The combined feed is a synthetic feed that is done server-side.

Even though we cover it at some Class B airports, Clearance Delivery is not very interesting since most pilots get their clearances via PDC.

We are maxed out at our current receiver site.  If there is anyone else near LAX (and who can actually hear aircraft on the ground) we'd be happy to work something out for LAX Clearance.  If there is really that much demand then someone will surely volunteer.

We do our best to provide great coverage all over the world.  And we spend a lot of time and money doing it.  Not all feeds are provided solely by volunteers.

We all want everything, but sadly we can't.  :-)

Wish I could help... but I live 17 NM south of MCI in an apartment, so I doubt I'd make a good candidate for any new feed

I'd be interested in a feed that monitored the ARTCC (Center) frequencies in that area, even if you can't hear the controllers.

The only RCAG I see listed in the Kansas City Area is Sector 26 on 133.800, can you hear the controller on that frequency ?

17nm south of KMCI? Would that be going down I-29, or I-435? 20 miles south would put you close to having some line of sight with KMKC. I don't know if there is a feed for that..
The ARTCC facility is also in town, but I'm not sure where.. perhaps something for there?

I understand. If clearance isn't possible, are you able to separate ground so north and south are separate? I still hear lots of transmissions for clearance at sfo, ord, jfk, and others even though most is done by pdc.

No.
