JFK Approach CAMRN now on 118.4?

(1/3) > >>

wiedehopf:
as the title says, camrn approach now seems to be on 118.4 which is covered as ROBER(backup) but as 125.7 and 118.4 are often active at the same time you get a strange mix of both frequencies.

Does the CAMRN receiver receive 118.4? If so, a changeover would be appreciated :)

(i think i heard a controller say "sorry i gave you the old frequency")

118.4 was always a spare for ROBER. This may just be a temporary change for today.  That receiver is not remotely programmable and usually with New York TRACON we have to carefully verify whether frequency changes are permanent or temporary. I was listening to ROBER earlier and I heard the controller switch some of the pilots to 118.4 but it was still the ROBER controller working those flights. Now the CAMRN controller is using 118.4.

We’ll try to find out more but if someone has time to go through some of this week’s archives perhaps there are some clues.

ty for the quick answer ;)

128.125 is still transmitting simulcast with 118.4 so could well be sth temporary.

i've listened quite a bit this week and no solid clues if it's permanent.
maybe my post sounded a bit too demanding sorry for that, not what i meant.
there are always other frequencies and quite a lot transmissions are heard anyway on the other feed.
we'll see in a few weeks if it's permanent.

(offtopic: yesterday some crews were quite challenged having to chose between Parkway Visual and RNP 13L; but after some discussion found and managed the Parkway Visual just fine :)

JetScan1:
Just checking some archives it sounds like things started to change on Oct 09. On the 9th at 20Z 128.125 was active and they were using 118.400 for the final position (usually 132.40). Then on Oct 10th, 128.125 was active in the morning until 11Z then it went dead (nothing heard) until 1607Z when it came back for a bit until 1627Z when the controller started offloading traffic to 118.400 (same controller) then continued to simulcast until 1635Z when it went dead again, then at 1807Z you can hear the FAA do a test count twice on 128.125, then at 1833Z came back with the controller asking a Delta flight to switch from 118.400 to 128.125 for a radio check and asking the flight if they were hearing any interference, then shortly after started using 128.125 again for aircraft. So sounds like some sort of interference issue on 128.125.

Thanks JS...the last time that N90 area did a frequency change it was due to interference. Radio frequency interference in the NYC area can be a nightmare. Will continue to monitor for a couple of days to see how this plays out and then will get radios modified. Appears that 118.400 will need to be removed from ROBER and added to JFK Final.
