Interest in CYVR feed?
« on: August 11, 2005, 02:03:54 AM »
I am contemplating trying to hook up a CYVR feed.  I live 16 miles from the airport right below the end of the localizer for the 26 runways.  Good reception of a/c of course and fair ATC reception but I am in the market for a better antenna to boost my reception.  The CZVR ACC is located a few miles away and that allows for good reception of a few center controllers.

Just wanted to get any thoughts on the feed and how many would be very interested in this feed.

Curtis-

It's a busy airport and I'm sure many listeners would be intererested.  Someone else offered to feed it about 9 months ago but, like many well-intentioned potential feeders, just vanished.  :-)

So first make sure it's something you're really prepared to do and then contact me and I'll get you set up.

I'll be honest...I'm not prepared to run a 24/7 server dedicated to this stream.  It would basically be run off my home computer likely during daylight hours.  (There is basically no action during the night anyways.)  I am undecided wether I would run the feed off of my PRO-2051 or AR-108.  As I said I am in the market for an antenna and should be purchasing one shortly to boost my reception.  I would be interested in learning more about how a stream would be set up and how it might affect my upload usage with my ISP.  I sent off an "application" form from the home page...you should get it soon.

I'd love to hear a Vancouver feed...I live here in Alberta but am much too far from Calgary to hear the tower.  I frequently listen to CYYZ and would love some variety in my Canadian listening!

If I'm not mistaken, that's Vancouver International right?  If so, put it on!   Let's see if this site can broadcast that and I'll tune in.  I always hope to find someone from the Sault Ste Marie, Elliott Lake, Ranger and the Sudbury/North Bay sectors to broadcast too, if possible.

I'm all for it.  The more the better so I know how these controllers from coast to coast in Canada sound like.  I don't listen to the American side that often, since I'm not familiar with air navigation flight following.  Since I have a copy of Toronto's airway points, I'll listen to those.  I'll sometimes listen To Winnipeg, since Montreal center hands off aircrafts to their airspace.

Definitely do the YVR feed. If you use your AR-108, what type of antenna would you use?
