"Bad Weather Spots" list - very clever
« on: August 11, 2008, 12:14:39 PM »
Dave, just spotted the "Bad Weather Spots" link.

That is one bit of clever scripting there!   Thanks for continuing to provide creative features such as this.

One idea (already... I know):   After the candidate feeds are chosen for listing here, check to see if the feed is available.

Noticed that Albany, NY, is getting pounded now by a strong t-storm and it is listed here in the "Bad Weather Spots" list.  However, the feed is down (presumably due to the storm, given the time/date in the "last heard from" field).

It is already supposed to do that...guess I have my first bug.  :-)

Hmmm... perhaps I am mistaken then.   I just noticed that this page is only updating once every 30 minutes.  It is very possible that I caught the ALB listing on the "Bad Weather" page within the 30 minute window of it going down.

Okay, thought of an idea for this page:

How about a link to the right of the feed name on this list that takes the user to the most current radar image of that feed's area (same radar site that is being captured and stored with the archive, but the most current image)?

It would be really slick if it were a pop-up box that resized to just the image size, but even a link to the radar page that opened in a second tab/window would be cool, too.

The best would be if I hovered the mouse over the feed name and a window of the radar opened above the link so I could quickly scan all the feeds listed to see what the radar looked like, but that might be too complex to code?

Nah, pretty easy.  Should have it out in the next day or so.

You will see the radar map of you click on the METARs now.  I tried mouseovers and they are just too sensitive (and sometimes spawn multiple windows) - too annoying.  The extra click is not that much labor.

Very nice!  Thank you for such a quick turn-around.
