Idaho Helicopter
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:07:08 PM »
I sometimes hear on my scanner a helicopter with the callsign IDAHO 40 or IDAHO 10. They seem to be performing surveillance around the LA area. Can anyone give me more details on this? I also hear another type of plane that does similar stuff caused Med flight 2. Anyone know about this? Thanks and have a great weekend.

IDAHO is callsign for aircraft supporting the US Customs service (But not the USCS). More than likely an FBI helo. OMAHA is the USCS callsign.

The other call sign you're hearing is "Med-fly".  There's a bunch of King-Airs dropping sterilized med-flies to control the fruit fly population.

There's also Ameriflight, a freight company, and if you slur their callsign "AMFLIGHT" on the radio it also sounds alot like "med-flight".

Oooh, here's a "day in the life" of one of the medfly pilots.
