Just got it and man is it hard. I am starting out gave shift with just a few aircraft as I have learned that things can really get out of hand quickly.
-
I would start with departure. It's pretty easy- just clear them to the altitude that was scratched out on the tab, they're on their own nav from the start, so you just need to watch and make sure they don't run into each other.
I'm up to working the dense arrivals at ORD or ATL. I can't do both arr and dep at the big airports yet (sometimes it seems not humanly possible).
-
Yeah in real life one person controls a sector of only arrivals or departures unless it is a really light load like late night. The sim rocks so if you're tired of firs person shooters and need more of a mental challenge, it's like 3 D chess.
-
Ya, when I'm bored, I'll just spend an hour on the scope.
-
hey guys
i had thought about getting this a year ago but i din;t have th cash at the time. do you guys think its worth the cash. the the pro. edition woth it to get. does atc2 have voice recination.
thanks

It does have voice recognition, but I have yet to try it out. I don't feel like speaking slowly like I'm talking to a two year old. The voices aren't really that great though. It's about as good as the Microsoft voices. Not near as good as the Flight Sim X voices. I hear that you get a discount if you are pursuing an aviation degree, or something like that. When you get good at it though, it gets old.

You guys need to spend your 'talents' on vatsim, that is, if you have any. This will prove your skills.

i guess youve never worked the south sat positions at C90, were in the real world we work MDW arrivals and depatures at the same sector
-
No I haven't.
-
Go with VATSIM, its free, and best of all you can speak and someone from somewhere will respond.....
-
I tried VATSIM, but maybe I'm just too lazy. I don't feel like going through the training they have. I already know what I'm doing. The first guy that was assigned me wasn't really friendly or helpful (from ZHU).
-
I'm sorry for that, come join us at ZNY, its a challenge, and you can progress quickly if you know your stuff

Computer sims are sure fun. I never tried ATC2, but have spent hours playing ATCC and love it. However, VATSIM is still something different from an AI simulator. You'll need a much greater knowledge of the ATC procedures and phraseology to work VATSIM traffic, because the types of flights vary greately from one to another, and you'll often be dealing with traffic to multiple airports 400 miles away.
Don't let the previous experience discourage you, and give VATSIM another try. There's a whole lot to learn to work VATSIM traffic, and it will actually make you a better controller. It can be as difficult as an enjoyable process, and can get you addicted easily. :)
-
I'm sure most VATSIMmers are already addicted, same here.

Well I'm up to 37k a year now Woo Hoooo!

That's more than the FAA pays now.

Can I download this game? Lemme know where to get it.
-
You can buy the standard version for $60 and the professional version for $80 at http://atcsimulator.com. I don't think it's worth anything near that price. I mean, you can buy FSX for less at some places.
-
Yeah but it is the best ATC sim out right now.
-
True - but honestly, listening to feeds is more exciting.
-
The feeds can get pretty exciting, especially when the weather goes bad.
-
This is cool, I play KSEA a lot and I noticed they issue many of the same commands an way points I use when vectoring aircraft. I am getting pretty good a pushing the tin around, I just wish there were more commands and dialogue.
-
I tried the first verison of ATC and never realy liked it, but with FSX Deluxe you can be ATC for others in that session. You can even join a VA for FSX. The little bit of ATC that i have done on FSX is pretty good. You guys might want to try that.
-
I might try that, my computer doesnt run FSX that well, but maybe it will work for FSX in that mode.
-
I would suggest giving VATSIM a shot. I am preparing to start the training for Boston after running a VA for over a year now. Its a blast not only from the flying aspect but the controlling as well
Just a little plug haha www.VirtualCapeAir.com
