Enhanced Chicago megafeed to go live 8/1/2011 (need input)
« on: July 22, 2011, 06:14:36 PM »
On the way back from Oshkosh I will be installing a large feed setup in Chicago for O'Hare coverage.  It will consist of about 10 receivers.

Looking for feedback from knowledgeable locals on what to cover and how to split it up.

Tentatively I am planning something like this:

Radio 1 KORD Ground: 121.75 121.9

Radio 2 KORD Tower  132.7 127.925
Radio 3 KORD Tower  120.75
Radio 4 KORD Tower 128.15 126.9
(possible to combine tower into 2 feeds?)

Radio 5 Chicago Approach  (TBD)
Radio 6 Chicago Approach (TBD)
Approach freqs: 119.0 133.625 121.15 124.35 125.7 120.55 133.5

Radio 7 Chicago Departure (TBD)
Radio 8 Chicago Departure (TBD)
Departure freqs: 125.0 125.4 126.625

Radio 9 KORD Clearance/Ramp/Metering 121.6 119.25 131.3 121.675
Radio 10 Chicago Center (ZAU) 125.2 126.275

All input appreciated.

Yeah.  Some random barn.  Or something like that.

So, anyone with any real suggestions?  Or is everyone going to just ask random questions that have nothing to do with what I asked in this posting?  :-)

Dave - I don't know anything about setting up feeds, but I'm up at O'Hare with my scanner all the time.

Your tentative plan looks good to me.  If you can use a hand setting it up I'd be more than happy to help

any way I could.  My e-mail address is in my profile.  Greatly appreciate your interest in getting more ORD

coverage and running a great site....      Don

At night, when they combine all the approach and departure frequencies together, they use 125.0 as their main frequency. My recommendation, at least on the departure radios, would be to have 125.0 available on all of them so that even if you are on a departure freq that normally wouldn't have 125.0, you don't have to move to another feed at night.
this may seem confusing, but i can explain better if you wish.

A Midway feed will be going up in the next couple of weeks.  Very good reception.

Hi Dave and the rest of the liveATC community. I'm trying to get an estimated time of the ORD feed changes. I need some help changing over things in my itunes if things are going to be going live on Monday then my mother might be welling to help me, but if the feeds are not going to be going live until Tuesday, then I will be better able to change things because I will have more constant help. If anyone has any info to give I'd appreciate it.

Also take a look at my previous post and tell me what you guys think of my comment and suggestion.

It will be a few blocks away from Midway.  There is a good external antenna there but probably out of range of Crown Point - will check though.

I live in Portage if I could be of any assistance...Not too far from Crown Point. I'm actually going to be headed out there today to see family.
