HF frequencies question
« on: August 06, 2005, 01:05:20 PM »
I'm shortly going to be taking a trip from the UK to New Zealand, and then on to Australia.
My routeing will take me via Singapore to Sydney, and then on to Christchurch New Zealand. My return is NZCH to Sydney, and then to Perth..then on to Singapore and back to London, then to Manchester.
Has anyone any idea of the HF frequencies that will be used on the Asian portions of the trip?
I have an Icom IC-R20 Scanner, which will pick up both HF and VHF frequencies, which also has an inbuilt recording facility. I though I might try to record some of the trip on board, and if I have the frequencies to hand I would be able to programme them in so as not to affect any system on board with spurious emissions trying to find them.
Any help or advice appreciated.

First off, make sure you clear using the scanner on board with the flight crew. I've rarely heard of permission being given to use a receiver on board an aircraft. Second, more than likely you would receive mostly static on the HF bands...there will be a lot of interference from the aircraft itself, and when the HF radio gets keyed up it will basically overload the receive in the radio.
