Interesting watching the various aircraft en route in response to the earthquake. Officially the airport is closed until tomorrow but it is functioning, however, according to one report on CNN, the electricity is out.
Supposedly commercial flights will resume tomorrow but I would hazard a guess that that would be a problem due to security issues.
State department states the terminal building is inoperable. (Jan. 13/2010 - 2:42 EST)

This is ONE BIG DISASTER and could very well shape up to be the worst natural disaster in the western hemisphere in terms of lives lost, considering the estimates that 3,000,000 people have been affected.

All 37 international team members were called to the ICESAR (Iceland Search and Rescue) headquarters last night and were sent away again to prepare around midnight. They took off at around 10.00 GMT this morning.

"Officials said two C-130 aircraft were departing Wednesday for Haiti with the team of military engineers, operational planners, communications specialists and a command and control group. The Air Force is sending people to provide air traffic control and operations at the Port-au-Prince airport."

Belgium has sent a rescue team, which includes 20 doctors and 30 rescuers, the country's foreign minister said. The Belgian plane also carries water purification equipment.

The US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) is setting up a control centre in Miami to manage the air traffic between the USA and Haiti.
