Got LiveATC to stream on my Blackberry 8130!
« on: June 18, 2008, 03:35:12 PM »
I know some folks have requested how to get LiveATC on their mobile devices...if there are other ways then what I have below please share  :-D

1. Download/install Orb to your desktop computer.

2. Configure to normal settings

3.Go out to Liveatc.net and copy the link for the feed you want.  (I did the JFK Tower firewalled link to be sure)

4. On your desktop, go to Orb, then go to the "Audio page" and make sure you are in the internet radio area.

5. Paste the URL and channel name you copied from LiveATC into "Add Custom" under the "Favorates internet radio." Then orb will know where to look for the LiveATC feed.

Note: You need to repeat this step for every LiveATC channel you want.

6. On your blackberry browser go to mycast.orb.com
Log in and go to favorate internet radio links and click the feed/channel you want to listen to.

I have a so called high speed connection via Verizon so I don't know how well the stream will come down with other networks like EDGE.   Good luck everyone!

Hmm my phone asks "Do you want to open or save the item?" when I click on it, I click open and get a message saying "The item you selected cannot be displayed...", any suggestions?

Wat type of phone...blackberry, windows mobile etc.  I can't promise a ton of help as I just stumbled on this while trying to figure out if I could listen to Sirius on my device!

One additional piece of information I found out (the hard way).....Orb will need to be running on a machine at all times in order for this to work.  The Orb client on your machine is the medium needed to connect to the stream.

Ok, Got upgraded to the Blackberry Curve yesterday and it ROCKS.... THANK YOU!!!!

edit- Being a new Blackberry user, I'm told that they crash from time to time and right after I got JFK Tower on here and listened for a few mins, it reccyled... SO... I guess you have to do that with any phone or computer... We'll see how it goes...

I will however, re-emphsize the "Coolness" of this...

I am able to listen top all my music  via Orb and my BB 8330, but I can not listen to any ATC feeds from here, including my own  :x

On my BB, it always comes back with this error " unsupported media type:video/x-ms-asx "

any ideas?   Also in my BB settings, what would be the best stream format ?

thanks,

Rob

There's an easier way to do this on your Blackberry. Just create an account at  moodio.fm and add the desired stream to your favorites. (Add it as a station, using the url for the particular stream you want.) Provided you have one of the later Blackberries, you can then stream it onto your phone. I am listening to Long Beach CA Airport this way right now.

I forgot to add, it works fine on a slow speed (EDGE) connection. 3G is not needed. By "later Blackberries," I meant Curve & up, running I believe 4.5 & later OS.

Nice work...we'll add this to the FAQ.  We are contemplating a Blackberry app as well.  Our iPhone app will hopefully be out relatively soon.

I have a VZW BlackBerry Curve 8330 and all I have to do is post the (if firewalled) link into my Curve's web browser and it starts playing in the media player, pretty sweet!

Yeah I just tried that and my Sprint 8330 only streams 26 seconds or so and then stops. How weird. The Moodio thing is still working fine for me though.

I have a BB Tour and all I did was log into the LiveATC website, select the airport code for my area and click on the "LISTEN" button to play as a MP3.  Worked perfectly!
