I have a Uniden BC125AT portable scanner that use with a Maldol 500H V/UHF antenna. I also have a DPD VHF Air 1/4 wave mobile antenna that I use while driving. My question is, if I were to buy an DPD UHF Air 1/4 wave antenna, could I use a splitter of some type to run both antennas on my BC125AT at one time?
Oh, one more question... How come whenever I am listening close to a military air traffic close to a military base, the aircraft transmissions are clear, but the controller's transmissions are "choppy"? The controllers cut in and out...

You can combine the antennas with a diplexer: http://www.scannermaster.com/Jim_DIP2002_AB_Diplexer_p/36-531263.htm
As far as issues when you are close, you may be too close to the controller's transmitter. That can result in overload in a receiver. Or perhaps you are not close enough - and the transmitter is actually not where you think it is.
