G20/G8 Summit in Toronto, Ontario
« on: April 24, 2010, 11:21:24 AM »
The G20 summit will be in Toronto June 26th and June 27th.

Nav Canada will be posting an AIC about airspace closures in early May.

It may be some interesting listening on the YYZ feed as world leaders from the top 20 countries fly in to Toronto for the summit.

I'll update this thread as more information becomes available.

A map of the security zone has been published by the Globe and Mail.

As you can see in the bottom left hand corner that CYTZ is really close to the event. Approx 1.5 kms. I suspect that airport will be used for military operations during the event.

(I work in the CBC building), President Obama will be staying in the Intercontinental Hotel right next to the event.

I flew out of YKZ last night and learned that the airspace closures will effectively shut down the airport for about 10 days.   :x

Two questions.

Are you allowed to enter restricted airspace if you're declaring an emergency, even if ATC say no? Are they allowed to say no?

Are they flying everyone into yyz and then trucking them up the 400 to the Muskoka?

Good questions.

I'm pretty sure if you are declaring an emergency they will allow you to enter the restricted airspace.

Not sure if the delegates will be flying into CYQA (Muskoka Airport) it has a 6000' runway. Then trekking the 50km or so to Huntsville.

Have some more info...

Looks like the delegates will be flying into North Bay, Ontario (CYYB).

Also, Porter (best airline ever) is still flying into CYTZ during the summit:
