Frequencies in New York for JFK and Laguardia
« on: March 07, 2015, 07:36:16 AM »
Hello All!!!  Quick question: Can anyone  tell me which Controllers/Frequencies (Boston Center, NY Center...etc..) that flights coming from the northern areas in the Northeast and concluding in the NYC area use?  For example I am currently tracking a UAE 380 coming from Dubai and heading to KJFK.  I live along the Hudson River in NY about halfway between Albany and NYC.  These flights fly right over my house and I would love to be able to hear them the entire way through NY.  I use flightradar24 and live atc but I can only listen now when the jet gets really close to the airport.  Thanks so much in advance and have a wonderful weekend!!

Arriving into JFK via ALB.IGN1 (Albany VOR to the Kingston VOR then the Kingston One Arrival)..

Montreal 123.925/(133.225)
Boston 135.700/(118.825)
Boston 128.325
Boston 135.325 - to FL280
Boston 125.575 - LOLLY at FL200
New York 132.600/(133.150) - LENDY at FL190 at 250 knots
New York Approach

They should switch from 135.325 to 125.575 around your approximate location. All the above Boston and New York Center frequencies are covered on LiveATC (except 133.150 if its in use).

Montreal 123.925/(133.225)

there is no liveatc coverage for this is that correct? Also would be nice to have 133.15, a main departure and arrival frequency from the north and east.

Arriving into JFK once they are approaching LENDY, KJFK NY App (ROBER) picks them up. At least it has the few flights I have followed late at night

nybigfoot and any others interested. JetScan1 has a great sector map of the East Coast in pdf format you can download
from the Artcc/Fir/Tracon Map section in the Forum. Page down to you get to ZDC Maps & Frequencies. Click on that and
he has the file posted. Great map. Use it many times and very accurate. If you have flight plan and altitude of plane it will
give you frequencies used along the flight path for the northeast US.

There is no coverage of Montreal on 123.925/133.325 as far as I know. These two sectors always seem to be combined, 123.925 (north) and 133.325 (south), and the frequencies are cross-coupled.

The transmitters for both are located in St. Adrien, Quebec, which isn't really near any large populated area so unlikely you would find someone to provide a feed with controller reception. Even a feed with just aircraft reception would be good though, if located in Montreal you could cover all the high sectors, to the west 134.400/127.875 and to the east 123.925/133.225. The transmitter for 134.400 is in the Montreal area.

Also would be nice to have 133.15, a main departure and arrival frequency from the north and east.

133.150 is the secondary frequency they use when it gets busy. When it's not that busy 132.600 covers both sectors, and there is a LiveATC feed covering it with very good reception.

These sectors work NYC area departures to the northwest and JFK arrivals via the LENDY star as well as JFK departures via the DEEZZ departure. When it's busy they split off the JFK arrivals and JFK departures via DEEZZ to 133.150 but there is a lot of time during the day that you can hear 132.600 working both areas.

Just my two cents worth...I believe during most of the day, KJFK flights arriving over LENDY will usually contact NY approach on 128.125; it's typically late at night when the ROBER sector covers LENDY arrivals.
