hello to all guys
i'm a tower controller come from China
and i'm a fish here :)
i don't know about the "side-step maneuver"
is there anyone can make a explanation to me ? thx for the help!
-
A side-step is when an aircraft is on an approach to one runway of a parallel set of runways, and then ATC approves a side-step maneuver to the parallel runway. The aircraft simply joins the final approach of the parallel runway.
Hope this helps.

I hope I never have to fly in China

thx for the reply
but it has any relationship with the space between the parallel runways?
or operate in different model?

I hope I can answer your question with the definition from the Pilot/Controller Glossary:
SIDESTEP MANEUVER- A visual maneuver accomplished by a pilot at the completion of an instrument approach to permit a straight-in landing on a parallel runway not more than 1,200 feet to either side of the runway to which the instrument approach was conducted.

Valo,
Hehe, I wasn't trying to insult your English. Your english sounds fine. I was just commenting on how you didn't know what a sidestep was. Its understandable though If you are still in the probabational period.
Ive never been to China but hope to travel there one day. Who knows, maybe one day Ill be flying for Cathay Pacific. They seem to be doing a lot better than the US airlines.

Well, Emirates do lot better than Cathay, would you fly for them? :D

ZOTAN,
we use different language,so we have different manners of expression
things could be different ,you know ,in comprehension
so we need to communicate
anyway,if you come to my country for travel someday
maybe i could be your guide :)
-
Ill keep that in mind. :P
-
Zotan,
I thought you were going to say," I'll sidestep that one"
-
you guys are cute :D
I love chinese people, they are cool.
-
valo_j, I have a question, if I may ask you...
I've been told that the in the Chinese language, pronunciation and tone are very critical. The same word can have a very different meaning if spoken even a little differently.
Are any of your radio communicatons done in Chinese, and if so, does this present any problems? (We all know that sometimes poor radio reception can make it difficult to understand some words. I can only imagine that the issue would be made worse if the speaker's tone were important too.)
-
digger
in fact
the differences of pronunciation and tone bring about few of problems
because the gov. established lot of rules to reduce it
and that the controllers' spoken english was improved especially in big city
troubles come from the customs sometimes
for example , we use the "hold position "to stop the aircraft,
but in america, "hold in position " seems to be the clearance for "line up"
at the holding point ..."holding position "or "hold in position "? cofused..
