Boston clearance delivery is manually entering ad-hoc IFR flight plans for many now.

I don't see what the big deal is.
So many times during the summer this year due to thunderstorms there have been much more extensive delays.
Seems the delays due to this were about an hour or two, not even close to how long they could be during SWAP.

Leave it to the media to go nuts just because of a computer glitch, its the only thing I saw on the news this afternoon.

Yes, the media was having some fun with it, but it was still a national problem.  I spent a few hours in our ramp tower in CVG today and they were having problems getting some flights out, especially to BOS, BWI, ATL, and ORD, who were all getting hit the hardest.

Apparently the system that was down is named NADIN.  Do any of you ATC aficionados know anything about this system?  What's NADIN stand for?  What is the system's function?

National Airspace Data Interchange Network

Smaller switching stations around the US send FP to the larger switching stations in Atlanta Center and Salt Lake Center who then disseminate the FP to the Nation. The system in ATL went down.

Here is a little history:

this really sucked

about half of our IFR plans were not in the system.

having to manually put them all in takes ALOT of your time....and at least in my facility that can really put you down the pooper.

i didn't have any problems today though at work...i hope everything is ironed out.

Is this system a Gov't system or has it been privatized like GA's FSS?
