Help? Which connector for 1/4" Heliax LDF 150A?
« on: December 28, 2008, 03:37:24 PM »
I'm buying a Diamond D-130J antenna, it says UHF SO-239 connector on the ad, Here is the link http://www.hamcity.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=2117

I want to upgrade my coax to Heliax 1/4"  LDF 150A, but I don't have a clue which connectors I need to get, I'm using a PRO-96 scanner.

I've searched and searched I don't know what to get,

Not sure where you are located..   The SO connector is the female side of a standard PL259 connector.   1/4 heliax will really get you nothing.  Why not some belden 9913 cable.  Anything under 100ft is an acceptable loss for aviation band.   And if you are near any FM stations TX antennas (with 5 miles) you will need a good FM trap since this antenna you are selecting with bring in those 5000+  watts stations nicely.     Strongly sugges one of those DPD antennas @ $55.      This feed link is using one of these DPD antennas >>>>>      http://alt.liveatc.net/zbw_mpv

Agree.  Skip the hardline - overkill, and the connectors can cost you more than the cable, depending on how you're buying this stuff (new or used).

The only issue with 9913 is water.  It is very prone to water damage if you're not careful with terminations.  Even if you are careful, water will eventually find its way in and contaminate the cable.  Look at a pre-made LMR-400 or similar cable.  Plenty of vendors out there.
