Yeah, I read about that yesterday and came here immediately to hear the archive. Sadly, the EWR feed seems to be down.

This is scary, how do you confuse a taxi way for a run way?

A couple of articles already quoted that both the taxiway and runway were recently repaved, so they do look dark. Either way, it was near or after sunset, and the field was in VMC, so there shouldn't have been any way he could have mistaken it for a taxiway. The lights should have told him otherwise!

What?  I was just pointing out that taking the time to post the thread on an airline related site the code should be correct.  I'm nowhere near as bitchy as the  A.net folks going on about Southwest's WN instead of SW.

is it just me, or does it seem like theres a lot of negativity lately in the forums? isnt this a place for enthusiasts to come together in a positive way to learn or just enjoy thier hobbies? c'mon people dont bash on others if they get a wrong abbreviation, just simply correct them if it bothers you.

This has nothing to do with flight simulation, but the fact that you didn't reference real world airline, so unless we hadn't already read the articles in question, we would not know what you were talking about.

Let's also assume you're a real world pilot. you should be more than familiar with IATA codes, let alone ICAO codes (you need the latter for flight planning). How much flack do you think real world pilots get for filing the wrong code in their flight plan?

We let the press slide because they're the press (and as if we expect them to get anything right in the aviation world! ;) )..

It would really be bad if a bunch of 'noob flight simmers' (as you so put it) were more savvy about real world ops than a real world pilot... But I digress..

And that is precisely what I did, yet he found it necessary to respond with "I really dont care!"

for those interested, this report by the NTSB gives a lot of insight on how this could happen at the commercial level <www.ntsb.gov/recs/letters/2004/A04_48_50.pdf >

Within Continental, they call themselves CAL.  Its also their ticker symbol on the NYSE.
