My question is how can 2 pilots go 15 miles without realizing they had passed their destination? They had to be sleeping.

If both were in some way medically incapacitated (hypoxia, etc).

Thats a possibility but highly unlikley just the pilots were incapacitated if that was the case.  Effective performance time for a decompression at FL210 can range between 10-30 minutes so Im sure if that happened the pilots might have noticed it but theres always that chance they miss it.  I have done several altitude chamber flights up to 25000 feet and I normally start to recognize effects of hypoxia within 3 minutes of me taking my oxygen mask off.  Also done a few rapid decompression flights from 30000 feet which is a pretty painful experience.

I'm an aviation student at UND and am enrolled in a flight physiology class. We just finished going in the altitude chamber with a decompression at  25,000'. Like that last poster you begin to notice effects at about 3 minutes, of course this varies with each individual. The person next to me passed out in about 2 min 45 seconds. At 21,000' it is about 8- 10 min, at 25 it is down to 3 - 5 and at 30 you have about 1 - 2 min.

NTSB sound analyzers are befuddled by what sounds to be a growling/snorting/snoring sound in the flight deck area microphone......   :-D
