hey i'm new here
« on: September 09, 2007, 08:49:41 AM »
Hey Folks,

My name is Jacko and I live in Adeliade, Australia.

I live not far from an airport (800 metres in a straight line) and am looking at tuning in to the tower at the airport.

I have been looking at one of these http://members.optusnet.com.au/~gsagar/maycom_108.htm

would this be suitable for my needs?

Thanks
Jacko (my real name is Scott)

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but none of the others seemed right to post this sort of thing in.

Thanks Jason and Lezam,

Lezam: unfortunately no its not a major airport with jets and stuff, nor is it an international one. It is a training airport where pilots learn to fly, however its an incredibly busy airport (its Parafield Airport, if you have ever heard of it).

I also don't live too far from the Edinborough RAFF base but I don't know if the receivers that most people would use here would be able to pick them up.

I have another question, I did some calculations and worked out that if a stream used approx 16kbps, that would use around 5gb a month of bandwidth, is this true? for me it just seems like to much usage.

Heres some more info on the airport I live near

http://www.fallingrain.com/icao/YPPF.html

I only live around 888 meters away (or 0.55 miles), I am planning to go out and purchase a scanner this week and try to tune into the local tower, I will start with just the inbuilt areal and if I can't get anything I will try other resources.

Are there standards as to what frequencies control towers can use?

heres a little more info on the airport
