Title: Delays between Live ATC feeds and Flight Aware
Post by: WNFlyer on January 13, 2007, 08:58:58 PM
As I'm sure many of you do, I listen to Live ATC (usually PHL Approach) and follow the flights on Flight Aware.  It seems Flight Aware is usually several minutes behind.  Does anyone know how much?  Also, how much of a delay do the feeds have?

Thanks!
Jeff

Flight Trackers are usually delayed 3-5 minutes. Feeds on average are delayed 5-10 seconds.

I'm curious, how do the trackers get their flight data?

I'm curious, how do the trackers get their flight data?

They each subscribe to a live private data feed from the FAA (which has restrictions), as I understand it.

Flightaware tells all about how it gets its feeds in its faq section I think.

Their delay is 6 minutes.  It's pretty exact.

Get liveatc cookin, then flight aware, and then overlay the real-time fight tracks in Google Earth from this page: http://www.fboweb.com/antest/ge/intro.aspx?old=1

For me, I found the CYYZ feed is delayed only by 2 seconds.  A very "Live" feed indeed.   Usually after I hear the pilot on the scanner then I hear it from the feed itself near instantly.
