Decent Scanner?

Hi,
I have a fairly cheap scanner at home at it can hardly pick up my local airport and was wondering could anybody recommend a good scanner. I live in Dublin,Ireland and with a decent scanner should be able to listen to Shannon Centre and Shanwick Oceanic as well as London/Manchester as they control the sector of the Irish Sea from the Isle of Man inwards.

thanks...i was trying to avoid putting up an external antenna as the neighbours might get pissed off.
