Advice on active channels
« on: February 13, 2021, 07:53:33 PM »
Hi, I'm interested in listening to atc at large/busy airports but the ones I find are so quiet (infrequent comm) that I wonder if I'm doing something wrong.

For instance Newark, I see there are a few aircraft on the ground at the time of this writing, yet kewr ground, departure and tower are so very quiet.

What would be a good, busy airport for me to listen to, one that's "guaranteed" to be busy at certain hours?

Would much appreciate some advice here. I'm not a pilot or atc so don't know any lingo. Thanks.

KLAX_TWR, KSFO_TWR, and KJFK are all usually busy.
You can also check out the 'Top 50 Feeds' page which are usually busy - https://www.liveatc.net/topfeeds.php

You can also try KLGA (NY Laguardia), KDFW (Dallas Fort Worth), KATL (Atlanta).  Those are usually busy during the day too. When u listen to KEWR, do u hear anything at all? I'm listening to KEWR right now and there seems to be activity.

Thanks. I listened to KJFK Tower on two occasions yesterday (Sun), at 9am and 6pm. The latter session sounded "normal", taxi and takeoff instructions, but when I listened at 9am the only thing I heard were pilot confirmations to contact departure, very strange. Perhaps only a glitch... Listening now again at 10pm, communication is as expected.
