Cleveland ARTCC question
« on: November 17, 2004, 01:54:44 PM »
If there is anyone withing the Cleveland ARTCC area specificly in central Pennsylvania area I have a question. The question has to do in regard to the Clarion,Bradford,Slate Run,and Crosby low altitude sectors. I have a list of a few frequencies namely 124.325,125.875,126.725,and 134.475. Which sectors go with which frequencies. Namely the reason I am sking is that Allentown approaches are handed off from Cleveland ARTCC to NY CEnter 134.8. I am trying to find out which frequency of Cleveland ARTCC hands off to NY Center 134.8. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

I'm guessing you are probably looking at the same map I have ? I see the sectors and frequencies but can't tell what frequency belongs to what sector either.

Using the London, Ontario Javaradio, which is quite far from this area, I was able to monitor traffic on 124.325, and came up with this log:

COM975,CRJ7,ATL-ROC,1757Z,via ROC,FL280,to 11000,to 123.700 Rochester Approach,1807Z
AWI734,CRJ2,IAD-YYZ,1758Z,via BUF,FL260,to 125.200 Cleveland,1805Z
COM711,CRJ1,CVG-BGM,1758Z,via SLT.BGM,FL280,to FL270,to FL220,to 133.350 New York,1801Z
LXJ242,LJ60,RDU-JHW,1804Z,via LDN.JHW,descending 17700 for 11000,to 4000, handoff out of range ?
LOF3570,E145,PIT-MHT,1809Z,via SLT.ALB,climbing FL255 for FL270,direct ALB,to 132.175 New York,1818Z
KAL094,B744,IAD-ICN,1809Z,via J220.SFK.BUF,FL260,requesting FL310,to FL280,to 118.625 Cleveland,1819Z
JZA7938,DH8A,YYZ-BWI,1814Z,via JHW.PSB.HAR,climbing FL197 for FL210,to 126.725 Cleveland,1821Z
TRS590,B712,FLL-ROC,1814Z,via PSB.ELZ.ROC,descending FL292 for FL280,to 11000,to 123.700 Rochester Approach,1824Z
UCA8689,B190,CLE-AVP,1826Z,via SLT.J584,FL230,to 17000,to 134.800 New York,1844Z
N403QS,GLF4,CLE-TEB,1832Z,via HOXIE.LVZ,FL210,to 133.350 New York,1842Z
SWA483,B733,MCO-BUF,1846Z,via LDN.BUF,descending FL290 for FL280,to 11000,15R,to 126.150 Buffalo Approach,1855Z
PDT4130,DH8A,PIT-ALB,1851Z,via SLT.RKA,FL230,to 133.350 New York,1905Z

125.875 appears to be the same area as above, so far the only flight I've heard on it is a Comair CRJ climbing out of ROC for ATL and handed off to 134.125.

I also monitored a few flights inbound to ABE from ORD and DTW, both were flying J146. They checked on with Cleveland 119.725 at cruising altitude, FL270,FL290,FL330, then a few minutes before handoff they were cleared to FL250 and then handed off to New York Center on 128.575. On initial contact with New York they were cleared direct to ABE, shortly afterward they were out of range, but the next frequency must have been to 134.800.

ps - Log decode example in case you can't figure out my notes.

COM975,CRJ7,ATL-ROC,1757Z,via ROC,FL280,to 11000,to 123.700 Rochester Approach,1807Z

COM975 = airline and flight number
CRJ7 = aircraft type
ATL-ROC = point of departure and destination
1757Z = time of initial contact on frequency (UTC)
via ROC = observed or flight planned route (using fboweb.com)
FL280 = altitude on initial contact
to 11000 = clearead to 11000
to 123.700 Rochester Approach = handoff frequency
1807Z = time of handoff (UTC)
