Signature Phrases?
« on: July 01, 2011, 03:34:43 UTC »
We all have our favorite controllers, some of them with their 'signature phrases and styles'.  I'll throw this one out for listeners, pilots, and controllers -- what are some of the good 'signatures' that you've heard out there?  Do you have one that you use?

I've noticed that after requesting and/or recieving a clearance from my local tower or TRACON, I'll usually finish my readback including "thank you" or "thanks".  The funny part to me is that I'm not concentrating on inserting it -- it's coming naturally.

What one of my controller friends will do, is if he gets an aircraft calling up on his frequency, and it's an obvious foreign company, he'll greet and farewell them in their language.. for example, he'll greet an Aeromexico, Copa, TAM, or Volaris flight in Spanish, an Air France flight in French, or Al Nippon or Japan Air in Japanese. Makes the pilots feel comfortable with him, plus is just respectful..

I frequently hear controllers / pilots say "Aloha" on outbound and inbound flights to and from the Islands. :-)

I like the controller at KJFK who hands off every aircraft with "...contact departure, great flight, great night." I enjoy listening to him.  8-)

I try to always leave a sector controller with "I appreciate you," because I do. (Sometimes it's awkward or I'm doing several things and it gets pushed aside.

Toronto (YYZ) Arrivals - they don't nickname the man "ROG" for nothing!  :-D

(listen to attached where he is actually called that, but doesn't use his signature word in this example)
