Callsigns needed, please help!!!
« on: July 30, 2007, 07:40:19 AM »
Hello,

I'm trying to transcribe given ATC feeds, but I'm finding it rather difficult.  I'm absolutely fine with the phonetic alphabet (alpha, bravo, etc) but I'm struggling to recognise some of the words.  Scary to whiskey departure?  What does that mean?  Did they really say "scary"?

A link explaining all the terminology would help me no end.

Thanks

Gareth

airnav.com lists the standard departure procedures for (US) airports near the end of their airport information page (just above the section for "fuel supply, limo and hotels")

For KJFK:

GREKI THREE **CHANGED**         2 pages: [1] [2] (604KB)

KENNEDY ONE         2 pages: [1] [2] (948KB)
MERIT THREE **CHANGED**         2 pages: [1] [2] (624KB)
SEAVIEW TWO         2 pages: [1] [2] (607KB)
SKORR ONE (RNAV) **CHANGED**         2 pages: [1] [2] (508KB)

Hmm, in that context it almost sounds like a departure procedure "SCARY TWO DEPARTURE" or some such.   For departure procedure names, go here and pull up the airport that is being served by that ATC facility:

http://www.airnav.com/airports/

If you think it is an airspace intersection or GPS waypoint, you can look those up here:

http://www.airnav.com/airspace/fix/

For a comprehensive list of company callsigns, go here and check the name that you hear under the appropriate letter of the "Telephony" section:

Thank you very much for your help.  I'm listening to an archive recording from a UK base.  So only I would presume only UK and major US destinations would apply.

Thanks for your help again.

If it's the UK, then Sierra (maybe it's sierra rather than scary) Two Whiskey departure would make sense.

Thanks for the information, is there any further data on UK destinations?

I apologize, but I do not have any equivalent UK information.  Perhaps someone else more knowledgeable will see your request.

For UK charts (aerodrome diagrams, parking diagrams, standard instrument departures SID's and standard instrument arrivals STARS) go here: http://www.ais.org.uk/aes/login.jsp

It requires registration which is free. I will say it's not the easiest site to navigate but I would imagine you will find all that you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
