Hope someone can answer this for me

Last night I was using Flightaware to track a flight on which a friend was arriving at KAUS.

On the right side of the screen it shows DISTANCE  'direct'  195 sm  and 'planned'  210 sm

Question: what do the letters 'sm' mean?
