I don't know about you, but I'm not buying it.

Sounds cool, however I don't believe that it will make it to production (that is IF it really does exist). The Airbus A380 development program tried many different airframes including this type of airframe. They tried some other pretty cool things like the "double bubble" concept, which included two, side by side, fuselages combined into one huge airframe. And some other wierd things such as that. Didn't hold up in wind tunnel and computer model testing, though. See my post regarding the "A380 Navigator" website.

I wouldn't want to fly in it, for the simple reason that Boeing has said it's planning to have no windows (other than up front) and will have all seating facing the rear. . .

Not sure that's how I'd like to fly around, but apparently it's much more safe for the passengers that way.

Hmmm. That design would be an about-face for Boeing with regard to their stated strategy these recent years.

I'll ask my sister if she's heard any scuttlebutt.  Not sure she'd be privy to brand new stuff in the commercial pipeline since she's on the military side, but I'm sure she'll have an opinion on the reliability of that rumor.

Did Boeing said that there is "no case for a Ultra High Density" aircraft back when Airbus start developing the A380??   :?   and claim 'hub' mode of transportation is not viable?

And then they 'stick' to the 787 (7E7) model which serves "point to point"??

She's a mech & aero engineer in Wichita. Her baby of the last some-odd years has been the tanker that caused so much controversy with that pentagon person's tie-in with a Boeing exec. She's got some kind of lead role on aerodynamics or something.

Sounds cool! :D

P.S. Sorry for getting kind of off-topic.

Don't know exactly what this adds to the equation, but that is per-say, an old design, and I believe it first appeared in 1997 or 1999?

Fra,

Below is a link to a "Flight International Magazine" article about the A380 called "Europe's Giant." Go to page 4 at the top and the bottom of page 5 for pictures of design concepts for the A3XX (at the time, it was called the A3XX, and later Airbus dubbed it A380). By the way, pages 4 and 5 are called pages 3 and 4 by Adobe Acrobat for some reason. You want pages 4 and 5 (it has says the page at the top left corner). The Double Bubble design concept that I'm referring to is called "Horizontal Double-Bubble" on page 5, bottom in the article; I describe this design as horizontal side-by-side fuselages, a.k.a. The Double Bubble.

Any questions, just let me know! :D

P.S. It took about 3 minutes and 30 seconds for my computer to load the PDF.

I'd agree with you!  I saw this concept shape/design many many years ago, and if I remember correctly - it was on PBS.  It's been a long time though, and wouldn't be surprised either way.  Kinda kewl, but I love my window seat!  :)

so, how do you evacuate 1000 passengers from something that shape in 90 seconds?

Sureley there's not enough volume to surface area to have enough standard emergency exits?

Emergency exits that deploy through the floor perhaps? not so great if the thing has a collapsed landing gear :P

these are the big questions to worry about with a radical design change to the basic fuselage+wings aircraft style.
