LAX keeps saying "reverse approved"
« on: July 28, 2009, 22:27:20 UTC »
Hey all.

I thought reverse was to back away from the gate, but they are saying it to planes that just landed it sounds like. They tell them reverse approved and contact ground.

Any idea what this is about?

I listen to this all the time I think it means "back taxi" or It could be a taxi way that turns you around! I may be wrong but I want to know as well!

Im pretty sure it means a reverse high speed taxiway, or in  other words a high speed taxiway facing the other direction

Yes, it refers to approval to use taxiway Yankee, which crosses 24S from 24 right. This Taxi way travels "back" in a southeast direction.  It is also the first "left" you can make from 24R.

WN will always ask for it, since it will get them back to Terminal 1 the fastest. Also any turbo prop heading to terminal 1 or 2, since they can easily reduce speed fast enough on landing to make Yankee.

In the cockpit it is also known as the 'Polish Highspeed'!

This is exactly what it is.

If they can, and there is room between them and the next aircraft on final, they'll try to make taxiway Yankee, which is the reverse highspeed for 24R (Yankee is the highspeed for 6L). Otherwise, they may have to make Zulu. If they don't, it's a long way down to AlphaAlpha, which would more than likely end up with the aircraft next on final going around.
