Best VHF antenna and booster
« on: February 17, 2019, 11:20:11 AM »
I'd really like to get my home airport, PIE, on LiveATC. I currently live 6 miles north of the airport and I don't have anywhere on my property that has complete line of site to the tower. I have a handheld YAESU FTA-550 radio. I've gone outside to find the best spot possible and I can barely make out the ATIS over the static.

PIE is a great airport for LiveATC. It has a decent amount of commercial and GA travel. Both the tower and ground are constantly busy, there's almost never any dead time. I'd like to set up a Raspberry Pi to volunteer for a feed so that I can listen to it for flight training (and to help the other students at my school). The school said they might be willing to host the box, but I'm concerned it will be difficult for me to maintain remotely.

I know that in general VHF has to be line of site, but is there some really good antenna, booster, etc. I can try to help pick up the signal from home?
