KIAD Runway Changes
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:07:34 UTC »
Hey all, I know the KIAD feed has been down for a bit, but I thought someone else might be as nerdy about liveatc as I am and might find this interesting.

After I started listening to liveatc, I got the great idea to listen in on my commute.  I'm able to pick up the BARIN (124.65) approach sector controller in the car and tonight I heard Potomac Approach assigning 1C to arrivals.  Some might be aware that 1C/19C was closed for the last few months as work continued on the ground at Dulles, so now it looks like the center runway is back in use.  Just in time for the holidays.  :-D

I remember hearing the controllers telling pilots the week it closed that 1C/19C would reopen in November.  It was funny there for a while too because the FAA hadn't updated the airport diagram to show that taxiway W2/W3/W4 actually connected to the runway on the 1C/19C side.  Some pilots were worried they would have to taxi via U/T/Q/Y/Z to get to the terminal.

Anyone been through Dulles lately to see what is up?

Thanks to all the feeders and folks who run the site.  Looking forward to the return of KIAD.

-George

I work at Potomac as it happens, and was working BARIN when 1C reoppened :) It is finally back open again, a bit behind schedule but not too bad thankfully. Everything's up and running and we've worked it back into our operations just as we had been using it before, so pilots and passengers can look forward to landing on it once again.
