I liked this Airline's special liveries...they will be missed, but that's the way everything comes and goes in business.

Heh. it's actually the 4th. Aloha went this week. Day after Aloha, Champion announced they're ceasing operations. Today, ATA went under, and the AF-KLM/Alitalia deal fell through, meaning that it's pretty much cease operations for Alitalia.

Great start to the year for commercial aviation, no?

jeez!   what a day it is to be a commercial airline these days!!!   these airlines closing due to fuel prices, and the whole situation with U.S. carriers like Southwest, American, Delta, United, etc all cancelling flights and grounding airplanes due to fuel prices, and now the FAA announcing that they are coming after everyone, wanting to inspect all the airlines fleets!!

all this coupled with the whole air traffic controller crisis, is just making the whole aviation market lose credibility and popularity!

im prayin that things get a whole lot better!

Sun Country (a low cost carrier based in the Midwest US) just announced that it will be furloughing almost 30% of their pilots, which will serve to cut many flights, effective May 1:

That hurts.

SCX is Minneapolis based, like Champion and Midwest. Depending on how well they fare will put more pressure on MEP, and tightens NWA's hold on MSP.  SCX has been in Ch. 11 before, where they dumped their DC10-10s and DC10-30s for the 737s they have now.

Interesting year indeed.

Today, Friday, saw yet another airline cease all passenger operations.

Skybus, another low cost carrier based out of Ohio (USA), just announced they are grounding all flights and ending operations:

Memorable times these are becoming.

i could see this coming.  I knew Skybus was gonna have problems since they started doing that $10 ticket program.   on the other hand, i also hate seeing this happen, b/c its just terrible for the airline industry!

best of luck to all of those involved with Skybus airlines!   best wishes to everyone!
