My first month at Phoenix Tower!

After spending the last 6 years at IWA, I recently began my career at PHX tower.  I heard a lot of bad stuff before arriving about how the facility was cutthroat and they would be pretty nasty.  I can tell anyone, this is completely untrue so far.  Most everyone has gone out of their way to be courteous to me and assist in any way possible.  Aside from the training program being bogged down a little, this is the kind of place you make a career of.  Anyways, after a week in class, and 3 hours in FD/CD training, I should have a certification by week 2.  Then ground class on the 25.  Things are going well and I am excited. :-D

Congratulations on the start of your career at PHX tower and thanks for sharing your story.  Best of luck on the rest of your training and definitely keep in touch on the forums.

How was it at IWA? Isnt that a private tower? How did you get in with the FAA?

To answer your second question, yes.. it's a contracted tower, so sayeth Airnav:

yeah, I flew into/around IWA all the time.  Great job moving up the ladder.  It gets pretty nasty at times when all the planes come in at around mid afternoon.  TRACON has them all stacked up at my house. at least it feels like it. go figure.  I live pretty close to FFZ.  2 miles to be exact.  So great job.  Keep the tradition going at PHX!
