Well by the end of the year we'll have fully staffed midnight shifts too.  Not sure what else could happen here.

I'm willing to guess we will see quite a few of these pop up in the near future.  With the controllers now having an ASAP program (I don't recall their exact name for it, ATSAP?) I bet we'll have a few self-disclosures.

Similar to the story about "loss of seperation events increased 200%" (or whatever the number was) in Washington.  It's not that there was a huge sudden increase of events, there was a huge increase of reports, which is a good thing.  That is exactly the point of ASAP.

An interesting article in the Wall Street Journal discusses a cooperative fatigue study conducted by the FAA and NATCA.

I'm sure somebody is thinking about implementing some sort of dead-man-switch instead of hiring people.

Would that help? I mean they where called by phone and over the frequency and didn't hear it, so a dead-mans-switch would need a teaser to electrocute the controller....

They could have the same system that uncontrolled airfields have. Send a signal on the frequency to wake up the controller :)

 :-o

I wrote above if one does it they all want to, so there's also a Miami controller among 12 colleagues who closed his eyes....

That is what we call solidair.....

Have the airconditioner to 34 Fahrenheit and a cup of coffee will do...
