Thanks to excellent input and assistance from Dave, I am proud to announce that frequency tags are now active for the Syracuse, NY, feed.  This feature will show the ATC frequency and a label of the frequency that is being transmitted to LiveATC.net if you are listening to the feed using either WinAmp or iTunes (I believe those are the only streaming media players that show these tags).

A couple of notes:

1)  There is a 2-4 second delay between the audio and the tag being displayed in the media player.  According to Dave some of the best minds in the world have attempted in the past to tighten up this delay with no success.   The good news is that for a feed like SYR, the activity is just light enough where the tags remain about 95% accurate.

2)  For now the METAR data that used to display is no longer appearing with the frequency tags.  Dave did mention that he may look into testing a way to allow both the freq tags and the METARs to appear, but this would require his time to investigate and test so it may not happen for awhile, if at all.

3)  Setting this up was not too difficult and required a 9-pin (serial port) cable to connect the scanner to the computer providing the feed, installation of a free software utility called Talkgroup Monitor, and some patience in making a few parameter changes to the Talkgroup Monitor's configuration files.  A help file that is included with the software outlines the steps and changes needed.

Cool stuff, Peter.  I have a long serial cable I use to program my BC780XLT, but I should really leave it plugged in permanently to stream the Alpha tags as well.

Nice work!

For any feeder who would like to do this, please contact me through the forum (PM me) or contact me via the contact form on the site.  It requires a minor change to your config on the server end.

Peter,
I like the Frequency tags. I can see a scanner upgrade for KBUF coming. I need to get my listener audience  up...your beating me tonight 11 listeners to 5.

Thanks, Dan.  If the SYR feed were running at 11 listeners, it must have been for a brief moment there.  Normally it runs lower than that on average.  Let's face it - we're never going to give JFK a run unless a very public and long-lived aviation event occurs.  And that, I don't wish for!  :)

Nice.   Works great for me. If only the lag could be eliminated.  :|

Here's the link for those of you who want to try it but are too lazy to track down a class C feed. http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/ksyr.m3u

Oops... I didn't see that. There are still some people, like me, who are too lazy to notice small print.
