Thanks to excellent input and assistance from Dave, I am proud to announce that frequency tags are now active for the Syracuse, NY, feed. This feature will show the ATC frequency and a label of the frequency that is being transmitted to LiveATC.net if you are listening to the feed using either WinAmp or iTunes (I believe those are the only streaming media players that show these tags).
A couple of notes:
1) There is a 2-4 second delay between the audio and the tag being displayed in the media player. According to Dave some of the best minds in the world have attempted in the past to tighten up this delay with no success. The good news is that for a feed like SYR, the activity is just light enough where the tags remain about 95% accurate.
2) For now the METAR data that used to display is no longer appearing with the frequency tags. Dave did mention that he may look into testing a way to allow both the freq tags and the METARs to appear, but this would require his time to investigate and test so it may not happen for awhile, if at all.
3) Setting this up was not too difficult and required a 9-pin (serial port) cable to connect the scanner to the computer providing the feed,
installation of a free software utility called Talkgroup Monitor, and some patience in making a few parameter changes to the Talkgroup Monitor's configuration files. A help file that is included with the software outlines the steps and changes needed.
