As in the topic, listening live on Boston Approach. Not sure what the problem is,1535 is circiling and dumping fuel to return to land at KBOS.

on departure the pilot reported "stuck trim" and received vectors over Boston Harbor for nearly an hour so they could burn enough fuel off to land. Thankfully they didn't have to dump it! They landed right after a Dash 8 that was having prop problems, sometime after 18Z. Interesting listening!

Ah..I wondered what happened. How do you monitor so many different feeds to put all that together?

Also, how exactly are the multiple frequencies on each stream delt with, does  the feeder radio scanner cycle through the frequencies at a certain interval?

actually, it was all on the BOS app/dep feed. There are a handful of sectors on that feed, and AAL1535 remained on the frequencies that are scanned on that feed. If you select the 1200-1230 (local time) archive, you'll hear AAL1535 ask for vectors back to the airport about 2-4 minutes into the archive. You can check out www.passur.com to view radar data overlayed on a topo map. I went back to 12:00 so I could see the flight on-screen and listen to ATC at the same time.

As far as the scanning intervals, usually the scanners cycle through the frequencies very rapidly until they find one where there is a transmission. They stay on that freq until the transmission is done and then continue scanning.

Ah, thanks for the information, I've not quite got the 'radio ear' yet, I tend to miss lots of information. I probably only started to notice when the flight said "declaring and emergency"

Hmm...these scanners sound pretty cool, I may have to see about getting one :D
