Airports and Birds

:? I really wonder why Birds of all kinds are so ignorand at airports !
Don't they hear the noise of an airplane or what? There can't be much food (waste) around an airport in my opinion.......

That particular photo is a trick of perspective.  That pigeon is probably 100 yards away from that airliner.

But anyway, I still don't know what these birds want nearby airports, so that was the question.....

When I fly, I always notice them circling in the thermals.  Airports are giant open fields with lots os asphalt or concrete to create thermals.  I'm not an ornathologist nor do I play one on tv, just my opinion based on observations.

They also go after seeds and insects churned up behind the grass mowers. I always see them walking around behind grass mowers at my airport.
