AirNav Live Flight Tracker 6
« on: February 13, 2006, 01:06:53 AM »
Does anyone know of any home PC programs such as AirNav Live Flight Tracker 6 that would allow flight enthusiasts the ability to view/track flights on the home PC.  This would be pretty cool to view what the ATC guys get to watch.  Probably not very realistic these days with national security so high.

You didn't mention whether you were familiar or not, but there is a free, web-based flight tracker website called http://www.flightaware.com/ .
FlightAware, like its commercial (read: monthly subscription) counterparts and UNlike LiveATC.net, does purposely introduce a delay of about five to seven minutes for security purposes.   Thus, one cannot synchronize LiveATC with FlightAware.  Also worth mentioning is that FA only shows IFR flights and perhaps an occasional VFR flight with flight following.  The majority of VFR flights are not included.

In the past I have been successful in synchronizing LiveATC's archives with the radar data archive found at Passur (http://www.passur.com/sites.htm), but Passur's list of airports is limited.

Through my experience, its a total waste of money to get this 'live' program... I often had data that was 30-40 minutes old(NE US area), and sometimes A/C positions would just stop updating altogether.  Those free sites that KSYR-pjr linked are worlds better when it comes to ease of use(plus the airnav program is a major resourse hog), and best of all they are free :-)

Hope that helps you.

Oh and hello liveatc.net forums, first time poster, long time reader :-)

A company called Kinetic Avionics have produced a hardware box that connects to your PC and will decode ADS-B and Mode-S transponder signals coming from aircraft in your area (with an external aerial I get responses upto around 200nm).  Aircraft emitting ADS-B signals plot on a virtual radar screen.

Easiest to goto the website and check out the many screenshots there and also on the forums there.  I myself have produced quite a few addons and things for the basic program that even interfaces the box to Google Earth!

Cheers,
Sean

PS I don't work for them before anyone thinks I am trying to advertise things!

I tracked a twin 310 courier coming into KDSM picking up the cancelled checks and money orders for the federal reserves (I use to work for them) about 1:45A last night on http://www.flightaware.com/ .  Very cool KSYR-pjr and only a couple minutes lag as I watched it coming in from my bedroom window coming out of the North.

Only a couple of minutes?  That's tighter than I understood their site to be.

If you have time, drop by FlightAware's general forum and thank them for their hard work in maintaining that website.  Like LiveATC, a free aviation resource like FlightAware is an incredible asset to us aviation enthusiasts, and these webmasters need to know how much we all appreciate them.   :)  It keeps them going during those long, late nights rebuilding servers.

Hi All,

My first post............ :)

On www.ATCBOX.com you can view two live radar streams of traffic over the Netherlands and detailed EHAM by using the kinetics hardware box.
Follow the instructions on http://www.atcbox.com/modules.php?name=html-sbs1-live-radar and enjoy. :) Might need registration in the future.

well i bought flight "live" tracker on March 30th and i would say its ok. i mean you have to have a fast internet connection. If you dont then it will take about 20 mins to look at it updated. It only takes about 40 sec to update thats alittle better. I think it's a OK price only 14.95 per month. The thing that i love about it is that you can see every airport in the US. SO Thats what i think about AirNav Flight Tracker its OK
