Yeah, AF1 uses VHF and not UHF.  So if you can catch them out there, you'll hear them.  It isn't listed in any flight tracking tools though.

Really? Wow.

Nothin special either, treat them like any other plane.

I dunno, I can't speak from direct experience but I was listening to JFK Tower when a 747 was taking off and they stopped all movement at the airport for around ten minutes... it was basically silent on the radio. One pilot asked if it was because of Air Force One and the controller wouldn't respond.

I heard that other airport towers in the New York area announced departure delays for a "VIP aircraft"

There are special 'restrictions' that accompany "presidential aircraft", just do a quick search for "presidential" in 7110.65s and you'll see what I mean.

For example:

Quote
b. Clearance Limit.

1. Specify the destination airport when practicable,
even though it is outside controlled airspace.
Issue short range clearances as provided for in any
procedures established for their use.

2. For Air Force One (AF1) operations, do not
specify the destination airport.

NOTE

Presidential detail is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the destination airport.

PHRASEOLOGY
DESTINATION AS FILED.

Venus 01 Heavy comes every few weeks to MDT as well for pattern work and touch-and-gos. Has flown right over the house a few times.

You can tune in tomorrow (Oct. 15) to the KGRR feed.

Not sure what time, I think the TFR is in effect from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm (EDT).
