Title: AAL719 Cargo Door Open
Post by: bcrosby on January 08, 2008, 05:06:20 PM
I listened to the archives but couldn't find anything.

AAL719 had to return to Pearson because a cargo door was open.

Sound like a no big deal from the pilot's communication with ATC..  just turn back and land, not 'scary' at all as what the media says [always]

The 'incident' is recorded here [early into the clip]

From Cadors:
The American Airlines, Inc. Boeing 737-823 aircraft (operating as flight AAL719) had just departed on a scheduled IFR flight from Toronto (LBPIA) (CYYZ) to Miami International Airport, FL (U.S.A.) (KMIA). The flight crew declared an emergency on departure due to an open cargo door indication and requested a return. The aircraft proceeded downwind, with a long final for runway 24L, landing at 2057Z without further incident. The aircraft held in the 06L hold bay for an inspection and then proceeded to gate. Runway 24L was inspected and was returned to service at 2105Z. Ops. impact -- minimal.
