Title: A Very Bad Situation Avoided
Post by: joeyb747 on October 12, 2010, 09:06:29 PM
"A Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration HZ-AKA performing flight SV-104 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), was climbing through FL240 out of London Heathrow about 60nm east of the airport when the crew received a forward cargo fire indication, activated the fire suppression system, declared emergency and returned to London Heathrow for a safe landing on runway 27R about 18 minutes later.

Maintenance found chafed wires in the forward cargo hold had caused a short circuit and an actual fire in the cargo hold.

The airplane was able to depart again after 3 hours on the ground and reached Riyadh with a delay of 3:20 hours."
