Title: 2 airports share same frequency but I can only hear from communication on one
Post by: gufranv on June 17, 2020, 02:42:15 PM
Hi

I live close to KTCY. Both KTCY and KEDU share the same CTAF. KEDU is on LiveATC as an option to select. When I do that, I expected to hear all traffic on that frequency, but I only hear KEDU

I am a newbie so just curious as to why that would be the case.

Thank you!

Basically its line of site/distance. If the feed provider had a higher external antenna for example, there might be a better chance of hearing the airborne traffic elsewhere. If you were to be flying you could definitely hear the radio calls from those airports that share the same frequency, although it could sometimes be faint with static depending on the distance or if there were terrain/obstructions in-between.
