A pilot is in a critical condition after he was trapped inside the wreckage of a light plane after it crashed at Sydney’s Bankstown Airport on Friday afternoon.
A pilot has been rushed to hospital after he was trapped inside the wreckage of his light plane crash on Friday afternoon.

The man was the pilot of a single-engine, four-seater aircraft which came down at around 3.40pm at Sydney’s Bankstown Airport.

He suffered arm, chest, leg and spinal injuries in the crash and was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

“Paramedics performed CPR and succeeded in restarting the man’s heart before taking him to hospital,” Ambulance Inspector Craig Watkins said.

The man in his 60s became trapped after the aircraft flipped on impact.“This was a potentially dangerous scene, with fuel leaking from a light plane that had crashed with one person on board,” Inspector Watkins said.

“Once the scene was made safe by Fire and Rescue NSW, paramedics accessed the patient and began treating him for multiple injuries when he went into cardiac arrest.”Fire crews acted quickly to cover the aircraft in fire retardant foam after a large amount of fuel spilt after the crash.

Eight trucks were on scene with rescue technicians working on freeing the pilot from the cockpit.

Aviation News (General) / Re: planes overturned by high winds at Concord airport

Nearby at KSFO the same day there were steady winds near 50mph. I heard a pilot om tower frequency who was holding near the runway awaiting suitable conditions if.  He Could turn the plane pointing into the wind while waiting, apparently it was rocking pretty good. One thing that was fortunate that afternoon was the strong wind was directly on runway heading. So planes could in general operate. Though they were getting air speed variaitons  as  much as 20kts while departing on ascent

Someone trespassed on the property and damaged four helicopters sitting on the apron, Sacramento police said. The person eventually got one chopper started, and it crashed.
ACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A thief crashed a chopper at Sacramento Executive Airport after breaking into multiple helicopters overnight, police said.

Someone trespassed on the property between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. and tried to start four helicopters sitting on the tarmac, Sacramento police said. The person eventually got one chopper started, and it crashed. The person then fled the scene, police said. They aren't aware of any injuries.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now in charge of the incident and said there is a person of interest. Special Agent in Charge Sean Reagan said a combination of evidence collected, witness information and surveillance video lead them to a person of interest.

However, Reagan would not reveal if or how they may be connected to Sacramento Executive Airport or the helicopter, which is owned by Capitol Helicopters.

The FBI is trying to determine why someone would want to steal a chopper and looking into several different motives.

"If someone wanted to take an aircraft for a joyride, someone who wanted to take an aircraft to do some other criminal activity or damage to other property, terrorism would be at the other end of the scope," Reagan said.
