Static if I connect to my jacks (headphone or power)

(1/2) > >>

NelsonC:
Hi guys, thanks for responding on my first message. I have a second issue...

If I connect to any of the two jacks (headphone jack or the power) I get more static and if the signal is faint it goes away all together...is this normal?

P.S. please give more suggestions/experiences with my previous post if you have any ($50-$70 used Cessna antenna vs home build copper J-Pole).

KMSY:
Switch to an ATIS frequency and see if you can pick anything up. If not, stay on the ATIS (120.825 I assume for YYZ) and turn all the volume up (add a 20dB boost to microphone). If that don't work I guess check the connections.

Another problem could be the proximity to a computer. I know I have 5 computers in the room I have now and if a scanner and its antenna get anywhere near here it goes nuts. Hell, I could run a feed from across the street (I'm that close to the airport) with just a small atached antenna, but I would need a computer- Once one gets near it, it goes beserk like I said.

NelsonC:
Actually, I am hooking it up in my room which has a PC, Laptop and a TV...usually the TV and Laptop are alway on...so mayby your right. However it also looses signal when I try to plug it to the wall (trying to save batteries).

Maybe when the signal is weak, anything that gets close to the jacks affectes the antenna...maybe the unit has a weak internal ground?

KMSY:
With so many electronics and radio waves flying through the air these days, it's always best to have an external antenna, as far away from the house and as far up as you can get it.

I know we've got a wireless router, wireless phone/intercom system, a few scanners, and more. While they all transmit on well separated frequencies they all seem to intefere with each other and we have problems every once in a while, it just takes a bunch of tweaking.

NelsonC:
Oh ya!...I have a wireless router too!...I just wanted to make sure that it's not a defective unit or anything.
