antenna extension
« on: August 07, 2006, 06:18:53 PM »
Hey guys,

Ok so I have a uniden scanner hooked up to my computer and everything is running fine.  I found an antenna extension wire that i want to use but am unsure of how to connect it.  The antenna hooks onto the scanner using a BNC clip ( i believe thats what its called... the one that you kind of put over and then turn into place)

the extension wire that i have has those bnc connectors on both sides.

My problem is that I can hook up the extension to the scanner.. but how do I connect the extension cable to the antenna?  Looking on ebay I found both couplers and adapters.

I would assume that I am just going to use something like that but they all say cctv or coax or soemthing like that.  Now I know I would need to get one that is NOT for coax if i am using these specific connections.  But what are they called?

Anybody know what I am talking about??

thanks in advance..

I think what you're talking about is a BNC to PL-239 connector.

I think what you're talking about is a BNC to PL-239 connector.

Or just take the connectors into radioshack and match them

I had some trouble figuring it out at first...

These are the two BNC connectors, Ignore the text.

This is an SO-239 connector- I have this on my J-pole

The SO-239 connects to the PL-259

See what you have and what you need, or tell us what you have and we'll tell you what you need.

It sounds like you need a BNC Male to SO-239 adapter... Not sure tho.

hey guys..

The extension wire that I have is actually from a tower..   Nothing is written on it but it looks smaller then standard rg6 cable.   Both sides of the extension cable are BNC connectors according to the picture!  Both the scanner and the antenna have BNC connectors as well.  So it looks like I need Bnc to Bnc.

Thanks alot for your help guys!
