Please Note that cardboard box antenna mast is not best solution,, should try a bigger box soon, but seeing as we still have not gotten the liveatc software working on the raspberry yet, this looked like a good option for now.

 :-D

---when compiling RTLSDR  we are getting Fatal error: ogg/ogg.h: No Such File  Compilation terminated

-- Update : rebooted and it worked fine this time... imagine that.. i looked at the instructions and the reboot instruction was under optional. so you optionally better reboot if you want it to work  :-P

Doing a hard backup.. will be down for about half hour.

Also moved the antenna closer to the top of our building, WAY better than before ...

.... and it's  Feed Status: UP

I see you are using the same USB sound card I am, what are your settings in ALSAMIXER? I am getting some noise that keeps the volume meter at 25% steady when in "silence".

since we are running 3 tuners we had to remove the external sound card , it was drawing too much power and where got low voltage warning ... so now just use the built in sound out jack.

we did not have issues with it while we only had 1 tuner no matter what setting it was on... could it be that there is some junk on the plug .. or a faulty card.

After a lot of work, we where able to place the antenna high on the building.
We are in eye sight of the KLGB tower.
yet the sound of the tower is not as good as other streams ...
Any advice is appreciated !!!

Are the Tower transmitting antennas on the tower itself or are they located somewhere else on the field?

Hey there,
I just took a listen to all your feeds, the volume level is a little low however it's OK. What I do hear is
a loud HUM along with the transmissions. I don't know a thing about the Raspberry Pi things...yet.
Just sounds like a mismatch and or audio settings are set wrong. By the way, the ATC transmitters
are somewhere else on the field, the antennas on the tower are for receiving only.

I found the transmitter antennas, there on the west side of N. Lakewood Blvd., just south of E. Spring St.

Good luck

Kel

Well that makes a lot of sense why planes sound loud and clear and the tower not so much !!
Thank you!!

would a bigger better antenna help ?
are there better USB radios ? we have the  NooElec NESDR Aluminum / premium

I was listing to your feeds again just now and I agree that the ATC side, and a few aircraft, do sound weak. Do you have a old fashioned scanner that you could
hook up to the antenna to see how it sounds? If it still sounds weak with a scanner radio,my guesses are to try new coax (probably not that) or raise the antenna up higher...something is
partially blocking the signal.

Good Luck (I know, what a pain)

I got up there to take out the smaller mast ,, but i was to shaken up to go back up there ... its about 30' on a hot, inclined, & smooth metal roof.

Damn... all this for better LiveATC sound ?  yeap, got to love LiveATC, Long Beach Airport & the Long Beach Flying Club!
