PG&E assessing the power outage due to a lightning strike at 0609 this morning.
I saw it happen in front of me. Huge bolt Kaboom!

A ligfhtning show is a rare occurence in Norcal, and this was an amazing one.

Agreed. We had a fun show early this morning over KMHR and NorCal TRACON. It was 20 miles away, but it lit up big time overnight. Started some fires as well, including a big one at KTRK.

Spectacular light show. The closest I can describe the sound is if you took a baseball bat and whacked it against a metal trash can.

NorCal came back online after power was restored and were not damaged.

SFO Ground and Tower feeds should come up shortly.

You're not anywhere near the LNU complex, are you? I ask, because it's bad over here in Sacramento, as we're getting all the smoke and ash from San Jose, Santa Cruz, Napa, and Vacaville. For those not in the know:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2020/aug/19/california-fires-latest-news-updates-lake-hughes-loyalton

The following airports are either slightly affected or have shut down due to ash: KSFO, KOAK, KSJC, KNUQ, KSQL, KHWD, KPAO, KLVK, KCCR, KAPA, KVCB, and KEDU.

We're getting serious smoke and ash at KSMF, KSAC, and KMHR (where NCT is at). A few gas lines were also blown during this, and because of the heat keeping the smoke low, no planes can fly out to fight the fire from the sky.. and then there's the firenados (yes, we just had a fire-induced tornado). I wouldn't be surprised if any feeds go down from this (they lost a few cameras already) so if some go down, this is why.

Hi Tyketto,

I’m in Castro Valley in the East Bay. My car was covered with ash this morning.

SFO had to turn up the runway light due to poor visibility from the smoke.

Air quality is pretty bad here

I feel ya.. It's got better overnight, but then worse in the morning here in Rancho Cordova/Folsom.

I can't remember if you're the one hosting it or not, but they evacuated Travis AFB (KSUU). The feed is still up, but I wouldn't be surprised if whoever is hosting it has to evacuate as well, since Fairfield is completely cut off. They closed I-80 between Fairfield and Vacaville, and Contra Costa County was effectively shut down.

That was a crazy storm! Sorry about the fires, and thanks for bringing tower and ground back up. Do you why it sounds garbled?
