Will try and repair in the next few days, or maybe use a back up laptop.

Computer that usually provides the feed is smoked. T
Trying to cobble together one of many laptops I seem to collect that has a bad screen, and run it through an external monitor. Only two problems. Laptop runs on Vista ( always have had problems running Odd Atc on Vista), and it has no real "line in"........we'll see.

Good luck getting it fixed, L.A. has always been my favourite feed
-
That sucks.
Please do keep us posted though.

If anyone in the LAX area has a spare old Windows XP they are willing to donate, I am sure it would be most appreciated.
-
Thanks Dave. I tried over the weekend to get it going using a spare laptop , but between Vista and the weird sound card set-up, it was a no go.

I just might happen to have a copy...

Well you know XP is not hard get ? wink wink
Your mission, should you choose to accept it (Find Windows XP on the internet and download)
This tape will self destruct in five seconds after playing...............................

Rob, so sorry to hear of your troubles, and the loss of equipment.
I know what you're saying about Vista... I have that system, and it seems like I'm always restarting, such a drag!!!
Best of luck in resolving the issue. Looking forward to hear the favorite LAX sound again :)

Sorry, no fix yet. There is a serious illness in the family right now, and my priority's have changed for the time being. Hope to get it back up soon.

No need for apologies! Our thoughts are with your family.

Have you thought about taking the drive down Sepulveda to that Frys near Manhattan/Hermosa Beach? they've had some motherboard/CPU combos on sale for $80 - $90, NIB.

If the computer simply needs to be able to run Windows 2000 or XP and have a line or mic input on the sound card I think I might be able to get what you need to get the feed back up. It won't be a powerful computer by any means. Is the application used to feed the audio processor or memory intensive?
-
I'm pretty sure literally ANY computer can be used... what could possibly be so demanding about sending audio to a server?

Ok, I've obtain a computer to get the feed back up and running. It's a Dell GX270; 2.4GHz Pentium 4 with 256MB of ram and Windows XP. The computer uses about 115MB of ram when fully booted. I checked with Dave and he indicated that the remaining ram should be more than enough to run the needed software. I tested and confirmed that line input, mic inputs, and speaker output are all functional. So once I'm able to deliver the computer the feed should be back online. :-D :-D

Ha. Overkill :-P
I'm testing a feed from KBUR right now, that's running on a Celeron 450 laptop with 128 MB RAM and 4GB HD. Works like a champ. Yeah, it was a bit of a pain configuring stuff under Linux, but at least I learned something in the process.

So onyxintellect... are you the guy bluecrewfan bought the computer from?

KLAX is temporarily up ......
Happy Thanksgiving
Rob
-
What do you mean by "temporarily up"?
I just took a listen and it turned on in my iTunes bu there was no audio. You might want to check the audio levels.
thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
-
It is up. Sounds fine on my end,
Rob
-
Wow, I've been waiting a long time for this. Thank you for getting it up!\
I noticed that familiar buzzing noise is gone now... sorta miss it. It was a good indicator to see if the feed was working or not.
Once again, thanks and hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Feed will be off and on for a while.

"Wow, I've been waiting a long time for this. Thank you for getting it up!\"
That's what she said last nite!!

I've noticed an intermittent muffling of the sound. It doesn't seem to be on my end. Does anyone else notice this? Is there anything that can be done?
I'm not trying to criticize, just giving some feedback.
Thanks.

As I wrote earlier, I am working on things.
That being said, if ANY one else would like to start feeding any freq from KLAX, by all means please do. Once I get things straight here I will just fill in the gaps of which ever freqs are not covered. But in the mean time please be patient.

My test feed from LAX is finally up and running. I still need to do something about a better antenna (it's running off a short whip), but all of the other components are in place. I hope to do some more tweaking next week.

Very cool ! I can't wait to hear it. When your ready, just drop me a line and let me know which freqs you want to feed. I will pick other freqs to feed.

Volume for the feed is currently a bit too loud.
I live in a apartment in the Koreatown area and I don't think I could get good reception from the controllers because there's some sort of hill directly north of LAX (I think it has these radio towers on top of it, I'm not sure) that'll probably block the reception. I have the scanner and antenna (yet to set that up yet), its just that hill that will probably pose a problem.
-
YAY!!! Bluecrewfan08, thank you so much, for giving me the joy of watching & listening to LAX again!
Happy Thanksgiving :-)

At the moment I am feeding the same 2 tower freqs that you are, but yours sounds way better than mine. I think the laptop is introducing a lot more noise into the radio, so I will need a better antenna to overcome the noise. Hopefully I can come up with something that will work much better.

Thanks for getting my favorite site up! All your efforts are much appreciated. Have a great holiday season

What kind of antenna are you using?
Although you are so close, I doubt you would really need one for the 24's.
Actually I am feeding right now with a laptop.....and i only have a mic , no line in. Thats why it sounds so crappy.

I am feeding with an old laptop too, but mine has a line-in, and I am using that. The antenna is just a small whip attached to the BNC connector on the back of the scanner. It sounds much worse now that the laptop is connected, so I think I am just getting a lot of noise from the laptop. Same thing happened on my Burbank feed. That one sounds better now that I hooked up a twinlead J-Pole, but still not as good as yours.
I am going to make up another J-Pole and send it with my wife tomorrow. Hopefully that will help.

audio quality has suddenly became worse. the audio is "hot" too high volume and is distorted. If you could adjeust input level that would probably help. Thanks
-
Thanks bluecrewfan for the LAX feed.
I do hear the "muffled" sound that Chananya pointed out. On my end it seems to kick in
several seconds after a transmittion starts. I have a hunch it's internet (bandwidth) related?
Just curious but is the server located in Australia???
Thanks again for the feed, and speaking of "feed" I'm craving for a "double double" over at In'N Out over by the approach end of 24R. :-D

Why/How would the server be located in Australia???
Rob
-
I saw "aus" in the stream info box last night, this morning I saw "mso"?
http://mso.liveatc.net:80/klax_twr
Perhaps "aus" is Austin and not Australia come to think of it? Or server location identifier?
I can hear the audio quality drop a bit only after the start of each transmittion. About 2 seconds after the start. It's almost a garbled sound or muffled sound? No big deal, but it may indicate something?
Anyway thanks again for the feed. Listening to it now 6:45am before work.

Not in Australia...in Austin, TX.
Ad I should add that has nothing to do with sound quality. It is most likely coming from the source broadcast.

Stuck on the ATIS as of 19:00 Eastern.
