FYI  My (Icom PCR100-12)  took a dump !  :-(  and I'm unsure when I will have time to put it under the scope to fix it however good news is that I have put in place a back up receiver (Icom R2500-10) for your amusement :-)

Anyway its only temporary and it will keep the feed up and running for now

Also I have ordered a new receiver to replace the dead ICOM from http://www.ramseyelectronics.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=AR2

I will post here as soon as its built and running on the feed

Now if I could only fix that PCR100  ...............  Tower feed ?   well we will see :-)

I don't know if you've noticed this, but if you've programmed your backup scanner correctly, you've picked up a couple of byproducts due to the current NOTAMs available for KLAS. For those not in the know, from DINS

Final approach is OTS as well. In place of this one for now, they are using KENO Sector, on 120.45. This you do have programmed in, so we are now getting the Final controller all the way until they are handed off to Tower, on both ends.

This so far has worked in Configuration #1 (19s/25s) and Configuration #6 (7s/19s). How they'll work in I'm not sure, but Final tends to move around in Configurations #2 and #3, so it's iffy. But thanks for keeping that one in, because I'm enjoying hearing Final again! :)

Wondering how it performs against against the BC350C, particularly when it comes to intermod?

We've been plagued by FM broadcast stations interfering with aviation frequencies here in the San Francisco/Oakland Area. I've been using this filter with great results on my BC350C's:

Well to answer your ? I ordered the assembled version as I had no time to put one together myself and I'm getting lazzy (lol)

Now as for your next ? how did it perform? well before we go there let me start off by saying I was very disappointed when I first got it as (IT DID NOT WORK !) :-(   and get this after paying for 3 day delivery I had to pay again to ship it back !

O let me go on here, hell why not ....... ramsey not only did not reimburse me for shipping it took 12 days to get it back !

BTW the tech noted 8 things bad on the board that was repaird  now how the hell did that happen? well that's another ? I guess lol

OK now that I vented and got that off my mind lets get to your ? about "how it performs"  the sensitivity not too bad and almost as good as my ICOM  the audio S/N is not as good as I would have liked however with my inline DSP filter  it sounds fine (BTW it would have been too noisy to put on the feed without the DSP) that's not good  :-(

Also it has a problem when receiving 125.60 as it's a image of 147.00  (2xIF10.7+125.60)=147.00  now this would not have been a problem however there is a ham repeater rebroadcasting the space shuttle on 147.00  (them darn hams!) LOL

So what dose this mean yep you guessed it more $$$$$  invested  as now I had to buy a Air Band Filter $79 big ones at http://www.scannermaster.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=36-531261

Crazy ? yep I think so too I should have just fixed that ICOM in the first place but O well live and learn

I will unlock 125.600 Mhz when the filter comes in

One quick note here

For those of you that listen to the feed at night you may have noticed that sometimes you only hear the ATC and not the pilot this is do to ATC simulcasting from 125.90

What happens is that the scanner may stop on something other then 125.90 and by the time it starts again its to late to hear the pilot come back

No problem, Glenn. I was just thinking that with the frequencies that you already have set up, that when they took Final Sector (135.0) out of service, they used Keno (120.45), which they now has a spare frequency, in place of Final. Keno got replaced by Satellite (119.4) a while ago. When in Configuration #1 (landing 25s/19s) or #6 (landing 19s and 7R), Satellite is simulcast with Keno.

Also, are you meaning 125.05 or 125.02? 125.05 isn't used that I can remember..

Ok Now I'm confused  !

I see 129.0 is also simulcasting on 118.40 and whats the deal with 133.95 ?  as its also simulcasted but sometimes I hear pilots I don't hear on 125.90 and they are very very strong 5-9+30db  as if they are flying over my house !    however its not listed on http://www.airnav.com/airport/KLAS     but its listed on http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=2139
Now whats really weird is that I hear most of the pilots on 125.90 but they are not as strong so I guess it depends on witch way they are going ? anyway there is really no way to add 133.95 as it would be a problem :-(

BTW I added 125.025 to the list as 125.05 has gone dead ?

Also I installed the filter today and its working like a champ :-)   it completely took out the image of 147.00

Ya I am looking at my oscilloscope right now and I just cant believe how well it compares to my ICOM R2500 and with the DSP inline it looks about the same !  keep in mind the feed dose not give the rig much credit as it sounds much better local of course :-)

Now if I could only figure out the final frequency list

To add to the confusion I see 135.00 is simulcasting on 125.60  witch means you will get a lot of one sided ATC as I do not have 135.00 programed do to the low S/N on that Frq

KLAS APP/DEP  splits up the frequencies in the day time and then simulcasts on all of them at night from 135.00 & 125.90

This makes it hard to listen to at night do to the scanner stopping on the wrong CH

What I could do is stop the scanner on 125.90 at night but this would require user input :-( or have 2 FEEDs one for day and one for night?

I will keep that in mind when I fix my broke ICOM

its funny how I never noticed this problem before but then again I have lots of radios going at the same time (lol)

Any ideas? please let me know thanks

Hmm.. last I remembered, you have it just about right. They split during the day, using 125.6, 125.02, 119.4, and 135.0 for approach (assuming landing 19s/25s), with 125.9, 118.4, and 133.95 for departures.

What gets tricky, is when they combine at night. around 10pm local, they start combining things. Satellite (119.4), Granite (125.02), and Lake (125.6) will combine up, usually on 125.02, leaving Final still open for Approach. This generally happens sometime after VGT closes (8 - 9pm local). Departure will combine everything on Mead sector (125.9). around 11pm, Final closes, and Departure closes altogether, combining the entire sector on one frequency (usually 125.02). The way I would find out would be to scan one frequency at a time If you hear the controller but not the pilot, you're on one of the simulcast frequencies. Keep switching until you get the one that has both controller and pilot.

Since you have every frequency pretty much in the scanner, it may not be worth trying to figure out which one they're on at night, because you'll hit it at one point.

Thanks for the info it looks like you have done your home work :-)

Well the only problem is at night when the radio stops on a simulcast channel you will miss the pilots side and after looking into this problem the only way I could see to resolve it

#1 have 2 FEEDS
#2 split 2 radios into L/R on the sound card
#3 scan only 125.90 at night
#4 do nothing and let it go !

I just may go with #4 lol......  anyway just to let you know I have 4 radios scanning all the aircraft frequency's in Las Vegas !

BTW I came into my Radio Shack today and seen the Scanner stuck on 120.45 with some bad noise its unknown how long that went on, the good news is that I fixed it (it was a ground loop from the oscilloscope)
